Truman L. Burton, 87, Lincoln passed away May 11, 2019. Born August 31, 1931 in Bartley, NE to Lyman and Hazel (Johnson) Burton. U. S. Army Veteran.
Truman was a graduate of Curtis High School, received his Bachelor’s degree from Kearney State College and his Masters from University of Wyoming in Laramie and Doctorate from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. He was a school teacher, principal and administrator all over the country. The last twenty years he was Director of Secondary Education in the North Kansas City School District until his retirement.
Truman enjoyed lunch and playing bridge every Wednesday with his friends Gary, Ted, Bob and Larry. He also enjoyed playing billiards every afternoon with his friends at Van Dorn Villa. He liked to read, work on the computer, gardening, bike riding, taking a walk, ballroom dancing, traveling, bridge, pinochle, card games, attending car auctions and do financial planning.
Truman and his wife Sherry loved to travel to Branson several times a year and go on cruises. Truman was a loving husband, father and proud grandfather.
Family members include his wife Sherry; sons Michael (Debbie) Burton, San Diego, CA and Stephen Burton, Kansas City, MO; daughter Robin (Mark) Von hausen, Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Jennifer (Beau) Rothnell and William Von hausen; brothers Carlyle Burton and Dyle (Beverly) Burton; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard and Wesley, sister Lolita.
Memorial service: 1:00 p.m. Saturday (5-18-19) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street. Inurnment in the Omaha National Cemetery.
