Rose Mary Watermeier, 88, of Lincoln passed away July 16, 2021. Born July 31, 1932, in Ceresco, NE to Howard and Alice (Murphy) Walter.
Rosie was a retired para-educator at Goodrich Middle School. She was a member of North American Martyrs Catholic Church, Altar Society, and Catholic Social Services. Her life can best be described as one filled with giving to others, and with an unwavering love for her family. She was a mother to her children, a foster parent to the children of less fortunate folks, and a caring provider to unwed mothers. Her seven children all had many friends, and she treated each of them as her own, regularly welcoming them into her home, where she would feed them, counsel them when asked, and even scold them when she knew they could do better than they had been doing. They were all her extended family.
Rosie made friends easily, and was truly loved by those closest to her. She laughed easily and often. She treated every person she met with dignity and respect and she did her best to teach her children that these attributes were worth acquiring. And despite her ability to see the two sides of every story, she never lost an argument, not even with Pinky.
Rosie loved to travel the Country with Pinky, and in earlier years, her children. Later in life, friends would accompany Pinky and Rosie on their vacations. She knew she was making memories with every mile she crossed, and enjoyed experiencing locations that were important in the history of our Nation. And she adored her grandchildren, most of all. The walls of her home were filled with photographs of family members, but the pictures of her grandchildren were those most prominently displayed.
Family members include her children Ronald (Sharles), David (Terri), Duane, Lyle (Penny), Darrel (NaKia) Watermeier, Gail (Tom) Hiskey, all of Lincoln, Leslie (Barbara) Watermeier, of Omaha; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband Delmar “Pinky”, brothers Edward and Bill, sisters Lois Priess and Shirley Murphy.
