Oscar Sandberg, 81, of Lincoln passed away January 20, 2019. He was born on April 7, 1937 on a farm north of Ashland, NE to Wayne and Tillie (Bonow) Sandberg.
Oscar graduated from Ashland High and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After fulfilling his service obligations in the US Army, he became employed as a field secretary for his college fraternity, Delta Upsilon. While working for his fraternity he visited chapters in 45 states and across lower Canada. He then went to work in the financial industry for a private company in Minneapolis and St. Louis. In the fall of 1969, he joined First Mid-America (later Paine Webber) as a broker and retired with Ameritas Investment Corp. in December 2016.
Some of his past activities include serving as nine-year board member and two-year chairman of Lincoln Electric Advisory Board; secretary and board member of Hillcrest Country Club; president and board member of Lincoln Executive Club; long time member of Delta Upsilon Alumni Board; member of the Lancaster County Red Cross Board; usher, deacon, elder, and foundation member of Westminster Church; co-chairman of the Lancaster County Republican Party; and member of the Lincoln Charter Revision Committee.
Oscar was an avid sport enthusiast. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball, cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and playing golf and tennis with his friends and family.
Oscar is survived by his wife Judy; children Kimberly Moon (William) of Denver, Co. Tim Sandberg of Denver, CO. and Todd Sandberg (Jessica) of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren Brendan James Moon, Caley Moon, Landon Sandberg and Reed Sandberg; nieces Pam Davis and Karla Stolzer. Preceded in death by his parents and sister Linda Mueller.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday January 25th from 3-5 p.m. at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel at 3950 Hohensee Drive (SW corner of 40th and Yankee Hill Rd).
