William C. Vannoy, age 85, of Lincoln, passed away, January 3, 2017, was born on a farm near Prairie Home, Nebraska, on July 17, 1931, to Pearl and Ivy (Youngberg) Vannoy. He grew up on various Nebraska farms as the family moved about during the depression years. Bill graduated from Malcolm High School and the University of Nebraska School of Business Administration and was a Certified Public Accountant. He was a retired tax partner with Peat Marwick Mitchell in Lincoln.
William served as president of The Lincoln Child Guidance Center, Downtown Lions Club and Lincoln Estate Planning Council; treasurer for Lincoln Children’s Zoo and Bob Kerrey’s Campaign for Nebraska Governor; board member and vice president of Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent Protective Association; board member and president of Horsemen’s Park.
In 1951 fate had brought a fair Irish lass named Jean Ahern from Ceresco, Iowa to Lincoln and later was introduced by a friend in the old Hobnob. A mutual interest developed and then turned into romance. They were married September 8, 1958, in Lincoln.
Family members include their children, Edward (Rie Tatsuta) Vannoy, John Vannoy, Lynn Heileman and Laura (David) Crawford; grandchildren, Iko (Tyler) Terrill, Patti Vannoy (Ryan Cooper), Will Norder, Dayle Heileman and Joe Vannoy ; great-grandson, Kye William Terrill. Preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Will; brothers, Pearl Jr., Francis and Raymond Vannoy; sisters, Roma Maull, Maybrey Hempel, Peg Westphalen and Merle Marymee.
Private family burial. No Visitation.
