Wayne L. Johnson, of Waverly, passed away July 25, 2015. He was born to Martin and Eveline (Knudsen) Johnson on August 18, 1924 in a farmhouse in rural Waverly. Graduated from Waverly High School in 1942 and served in the Army Air Corps at Pearl Harbor.
He married Audrey Tyrrell in 1948 and they spent their lives farming and raising their daughter and two sons near Waverly. Wayne farmed well into his eighties. He was a member of the Waverly School Board and was instrumental in getting the school bond issue passed for a new gymnasium and high school addition in the 1960’s. He served on the Waverly Rural Fire Board and was on the Board of Trustees when the current First United Methodist Church was built in 1963. Wayne was also a prior member of the Waverly Farmer’s Cooperative Board of Directors and was involved with the local VFW. He was an avid Huskers fan, loved fishing, and polka music.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey; children, Cheryl Moncure, of Lincoln, Lonnie (Denise) Johnson of rural Greenwood, Donnie (Mary) Johnson of rural Waverly; grandchildren, Shannon (Gary Fehr) Moncure, Erin Moncure, Megan Moncure, Kelsea (Jayme) Johnson- Pavel, Cody Wayne Johnson; great grandchildren, Avery and Quinn Pavel; brother in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends and loved ones. Preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Marie and Elaine.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday (7-30-15) Waverly First U.M.C. with Rev. Dwight Ganzel officiating. Burial at Rose Hill cemetery, Waverly, NE.
Visitation: 7-8 p.m. Wednesday (7-29-15) at Roper and Sons, 10851 N 148th St, Waverly, NE.
