Walter August Pohlman

August 2, 1930 - October 14, 2023

Walter August Pohlman, Sr., 93 of Lincoln passed away on October 14, 2023. Born August 2, 1930, in Grand Island, NE to Louis William and Alma Margaret (Schmidt) Pohlman.

Walter graduated from Grand Island High School in 1948 and married Twilla Charlene (Anderson) on June 22, 1951, in Grand Island and from this union 7 children were born. Walter was a retired Army veteran, having obtained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 during his 42 years of military service.

Walter was a proud member of the Havelock United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #3, Lincoln Lions Foundation, and the Bethany Lions Club where he was well-known pin trader and former officer. He was also a member of the Reserve Officers Association, Retired Officers Association. Walter was a Boy Scout Leader and worked with the Boy Scout Council.

Family members include his children, Charlene Anne (Larry) Schippert, Roxane June (Terry W.) Kotschwar, Linda Sue Turek, all of Lincoln, and Michael Lynn (Valerie) Pohlman, Brady, NE; daughter-in-law Barbara Pohlman; 17 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren as well as 6 great great grandchildren.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Twilla wife of 64 years, daughters, Kathleen A. Kraus and Cheryl Y. Pohlman, son Walter A. Pohlman Jr., grandsons Matthew Pohlman and Garson Kraus, sisters, Laura, Anna, Aldean, and Pauline; brothers, Louis E., Frank, Fritz, Howard, and Earl.

Funeral service: 10:00 am Thursday, October 19, 2023, Roper and Sons Midtown Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ St. Interment will be 1:00 pm at Westlawn Memorial Park, 3826 W. Stolley Park Rd., Grand Island, NE.

Visitation with family present from 4-7 pm Wednesday, October 18, 2023, Roper and Sons Midtown Chapel.

Memorials to Lions Clubs International or Bethany Lions Club.
