Virginia “Ginny” Johnston Brugger Welty, 95, of Lincoln, passed away September 9, 2015. Born August 2, 1920 to George and Bess Brugger in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.
Ginny earned her degree in Chemistry at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio. She met Arthur Welty, they married in 1943, lived in St. Louis, then made their home in Lincoln. Art and Ginny were married for 65 years. Ginny worked for the Red Cross and for UNL Veterinary School as a Laboratory Tech. She was an avid Husker sports fan and enjoyed cheering athletes in all sports. Ginny was a 50 year member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, as well as, a 50 year member of AAUW. Ginny participated in the NE Quilt Project, documenting quilts and their histories, and was an enthusiastic volunteer and supporter of the International Quilt Museum. She was a member of the Lincoln Quilters Guild, as well as several quilting groups. Ginny and Art were faithful members of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Ginny adored her family and sharing holidays, vacations, and all family events.
She is survived by sister-in-law, Nancy Allen, and nieces and nephews; James (Susan) Mayer, Susan (Philip) Barth, Sheila (Daniel) Rinder, Sarah (David) Torchia, Roberta (Ron)Westendorf, Scott (Terri) Allen, Beth (Mark) Fulton; 13 great nieces and nephews; and 4 great- great nieces and nephew, as well as, many caregivers, friends and loved ones. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; mother and father in law, Harry and Jane Welty; sister, Jane; brothers in law, Robert Welty and Gene Allen; sister in law and brother-in-law, caregivers, Elizabeth and Arthur Mayer; niece, Terry; and great nephew, Jacob.
Private burial prior to the memorial service. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2015 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd, with Rev. Ellen Davis officiating. No visitation.
