Virginia Eileen Mink, 91, of Lincoln, passed away on October 8, 2021. Virginia was born on July 3, 1930 in a farmhouse near Marquette, NE to Wesley and Florence (Anderson) Benson. In March 1943 the family moved to Waverly, NE. After graduation in 1948, Virginia worked at Goodyear Tire Co. and the County Treasurer’s office. She enrolled in St. Paul Bible College in the fall of 1952, where she met her husband Alvin Mink. They were married on August 25, 1955 at the Havelock C&MA church.
Together, they ministered in C&MA churches in Wildrose, ND, and Beaverdale, Osceola Mills, Sharon, and Penn Hills, PA. She worked with Al playing piano and organ, singing, teaching Sunday school classes, serving as Alliance Women’s president, and helping to start ministries for kids and senior adults. A highlight for Virginia was entertaining – each year at Christmas, they would host an Open House where she would bake and serve up to 15 kinds of cookies, party mix and punch.
In August 1994, they retired and moved to Lincoln, NE. In retirement, Virginia was the part-time secretary at her church, Old Cheney Alliance (where she also played the piano and organ.) She loved crafting, quilting and hosting craft boutiques in her home. (She was a master quilter!) In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with and attending numerous events with her children, grandchildren, and most recently, her great-grandchildren. She was an exceptional host no matter the location (her family loved to enjoy dinners with her at The Legacy where she lived.)
Virginia’s first love was her Lord and Savior. Her faith was evident to all who met her, and throughout all her years, she recognized God’s goodness in her life.
Family members include her children, Annetta (Eric) Davidson of Walton, NE, Ed (Lindy) Mink, of Hermitage, PA, Beverly (Bryon) Swanson of Wahoo, NE, and Don Mink of Wilmore, KY; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Shawn) Welch, Carrie (Andrew) Miller, Jonathan (Lindsay) Davidson, Christa (Geoff) Pierce, Maggie (Andrew) Harding, Sophie Swanson (August Trumm); several great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. Alvin H. Mink; and sister, Mary Leigh Woodring.
