I remember spending the 4th of July at her house in Lincoln. She was such a good sport about millions of smoke bombs going off!! Also as we grew, she put up w us riding down her beautiful staircase either on our bottoms or on a mattress w our cousins. I long heard the story that when she met my dad for the first time she kicked him in the shin and said “how’s that for kicks?” and then ran away laughing. Making a lifelong impression of a woman who loved FUN! She made herself family in a family of Johnson boys. I remember always feeling welcome around her. She had a gift for making you feel at once known and new and interesting. She had a beautiful interest in others and posture towards people that made her easy to be around. She was a strong woman with a huge laugh that made everyone laugh with her. She loved, she endured, she survived, she lived, she sought her God and she was herself and comfortable in her skin even when the journey was hard. All gifts. She was a rare combo of beautiful qualities that will each be missed by those who knew and loved her, each and every day. Aunt Vernamae, while we will miss you here, I’m so glad you are reunited w your great love, Uncle Bart, and all the family gone before. Please give my dad a loving kick in the shin for me and keep him laughing. You will be missed.
