Jean was born April 30, 1928, and grew up on a farm near Grafton, Nebraska, with her mother Grace, father Lloyd, and brother Don Kleinschmidt. She attended Wesleyan University in Lincoln where she earned a teaching degree and was active in the Delta Zeta sorority with whom she stayed in touch for many years.
Jean met Lloyd Ang while attending college, they fell in love and were married June 3, 1951. Lloyd and Jean began their lives together farming near Valparaiso, Nebraska. Jean started her 30-year career teaching grade school in Beatrice, then taught 7th through 10th grade in Valparaiso. She later found her joy teaching kindergarten. Many Valparaiso residents remember Mrs. Ang fondly as their kindergarten teacher and librarian.
Jean was an active member of her community generously giving her time and talents to several organizations. She was a valued member of the Valparaiso United Methodist Church, the Valparaiso Women’s Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Shrine Widows, Hummel Club, the Nebraska Quilters Guild, and volunteered at the International Quilt Museum. Jean was responsible for many of the raffle quilts for Women’s Club as well as the Shrine Auxiliary. She also provided quilts for children in crisis and for Quilts of Valor.
Jean is survived by her daughters Barbara (Jim) Clement, Lynne (Joe) Rush and Sherri (Robert) Corning; three grandchildren Jaime Clement, Hannah Dinc and Emma Zollmann; and three great-grandchildren Charlotte, Chloe and Cora Zollmann.
