Twila June Olson earned her heavenly wings on July 18th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Twila June Bailey was born March 19th, 1946 to Ervin and Millie (Bussard)Bailey in the tiny town of Dickens, near North Platte, in western Nebraska.
As the baby of the family, she was welcomed by her 7 siblings.
In 1963, Twila was united in marriage to Gary Jorgensen. To this union, which would later end in divorce, three beautiful girls were born, Helen, Shelly, and Sonia.
In 1974, Twila would meet the love of her life, Roger Olson, the two love birds would wed on April 7th, 1975. From this union two handsome boys would be born, Richard and Daniel.
Twila worked at the toothpick factory, Dayco Hose & Rubber Factory, and A+M Rexall Drug while she lived in McCook.
Twila and Roger moved to Grand Island, NE in 1991. While in the state’s 3rd largest city, she would clean houses, and later build a longstanding career at Ace Hardware. She was most certainly a “helpful hardware folk” and enjoyed meeting the customers with a quick hello and friendly smile. After her retirement, she and Roger moved to Douglas in southeast Nebraska in 2013, to be closer to family.
While in Douglas, Twila enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center and working at RFD Cabinet Shop. Her outgoing and loving nature allowed her to make friends easily and she really enjoyed the community she built in the small village.
Twila was an avid reader, and enjoyed a good game of Candy Crush, but was happiest when spending time playing cards and visiting with her family. She truly enjoyed watching her grandchildren compete in their various activities and will be cheering loudly from her new front row seat in heaven. As Twila and Roxanne would always say “We’re halfway to somewhere”, and we now know she’s made it where she was always going.
Twila was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband of 40 years Roger, infant son Daniel, and 9 siblings.
Left to treasure her memory are her daughter Shelly Pierce (Harvey), and Richard Olson (Abby), Grandchildren Katie, Ryne, Sara, Kayla, Justin, and Aaron. Great grandchildren Leigha, Grayson, Jayce, Joslynn, Jayden, Calee, Natilee, Lilee, Evelynn, and Marlee. Sister Shirley Peters (Byron), best friend Roxanne Laschanzky, many nieces/nephews, and other great friends.
Twila’s wishes were to be cremated, and graveside service will be held on August 12th in McCook Nebraska.
An additional celebration of life will be held at the senior center in Douglas Nebraska at a later date.
Memorials to Blue Rivers Area Agency on Aging, 103 Eastside Blvd., Beatrice, NE 68310.
