Terri Dian Bates, 66, died peacefully at The Monarch Hospice House on 10/30/22. Terri was born 10/14/56 in Salina KS, where she was proudly adopted by Melvin & Shirley Bates at the age of 5 weeks.

Terri grew up in Hallam, Nebraska and graduated from Crete High School in May of 1974. After graduation, Terri spent 15 years in the field of data processing before deciding she wanted a change. She trained at Southeast Community College for semi-truck driving and embarked on a 30+ year career of over-the-road driving. Terri retired from Fremont Contract Carriers in 2020 after a long and fulfilling career, complete with numerous awards for safety and quality driving.

Terri is survived by her parents Melvin & Shirley Bates, siblings Kayla Bates Dickinson, (Marc), Wesley Bates, (Laura) and Dennis Bates. She was a loving and attentive Aunt to niece Hannah, (Anthony), and nephews Kyler, Dax, and Cade.

Terri could often be found playing cards and board games with family and friends, her fun loving personality was contagious. She was very creative and crafted many original pieces that she would proudly present to family and friends. Terri was always ready for a good time and would encourage a fun and engaging time for all, she enjoyed music and recently had the opportunity to see her favorite band Earth, Wind, and Fire. One of her favorite activities through her career as a driver was participating in the Nebraska Truck Rodeos every summer.

Terri’s family would like to give a special thanks to the wonderful staff at The Monarch Hospice House where they made Terri and the family feel comfortable and at peace during her final days.

I had the great privilege to work with Terri at FCC. She was always a happy person but she lit up when she spoke of her family. My thoughts and prayers will be with all of you during this very difficult time. Know that she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Terri, Mona and I spent our High School summers working for Terri’s Grandparents, Lloyd and Beulah Nichols at the Sweet Shop in Lucas. We had so much fun just hanging out, going to the movies or the lake. I’ll always cherish the friendships we had and the time we spent together
