Steven Michael Gehr

June 1, 1958 - January 26, 2025

Steven Michael Gehr, 66, of Glenwood, IA, passed away surrounded by family and friends on January 26, 2025. He was born on June 1, 1958, in Red Oak, IA, to Marvin and Mary (White) Gehr. Steve grew up with his family in Council Bluffs, IA, and thereafter lived in Glenwood.

Steve was born with intellectual disabilities and was the center of his family, bringing joy with his huge grin and infectious laugh. He loved listening to the radio and playing records. Steve loved all kinds of music from Elvis to Johnny Cash to Christmas songs and everything in between. Always trying to hustle a few dollars from his family as well as a diet coke or an extra cup of coffee. Steve is loved by everyone around him and will be deeply missed by his family and caregivers in Glenwood. He will shake hands with everyone and say, ”We’re friends”.

He is survived by his sisters Diane (Nate) White, Karen (Mark) Hamilton, Kathleen (Thomas) Bizal; brothers David (Rachel) Gehr, Joseph (Jodi) Gehr, Alan Gehr; nieces and nephews Estelle (Mark) Landa, Maeve White, David (Jamie) Hamilton, James Hamilton, Michael (Matt Makofske) Hamilton, Samuel Hamilton, Joseph Bizal, Kyle (Jordan) Bizal, Anna (Jared) Cedfeldt, Matthew Bizal, Sage Gehr, Michael Gehr, and Jessica (John) Holland.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Greg (Alan).

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Roper and Sons South Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Dr., Lincoln, NE.

Recently we took a trip to Memphis with Steve. After a long day of traveling we were pretty tired hoping to sleep in a bit. About 5:30 am Steve flipped on all of the lights, fully dressed and said in the brightest voice, “Good Morning “! He was ready to start the day’s adventure!
