Obituary

Steven Dixon Carranza

October 31, 1963 - October 14, 2024

Steven Dixon Carranza, 60, of Lincoln, passed away on October 14, 2024. Born October 31, 1963 in Denver, Colorado to Robert and Kathryn (Dixon) Carranza.

Steven was a kind and humble person. Although he lived with his own physical disabilities and mental challenges, he used that experience and wisdom to become a self-motivated street advocate. Striving daily to help marginalized people, Steven sought to give a voice and aid to those who suffered homelessness, serious bullying, drug and alcohol addiction, discrimination, and social paranoia. Steven advocated for these people to public officials, whether he was welcome or not, constantly raising awareness of our public mental health crisis and seeking changes in the law.

Steven had a deeply held love for the Lord, Jesus Christ. It was this fierce love that helped him live his life with courage, while advocating for the downtrodden.

Steve also took pride in his work history, having worked in Southern California for approximately 10 years. He was passionate about his craft, working in the auto industry’s car service departments as an all-around mechanic’s helper and detailer.  His final employment was here in Lincoln, working as a dedicated site and structure maintenance and clean-up helper in a local Fast Mart convenience store. He enjoyed his time there, being grateful for having had the opportunity to serve his employers as well as meet and interact with people from the community.

Family members include his mother, Kathryn Dixon & her life partner Chuck Pattie; cousins Tyler (Emily) Dutter & their children, Tony (Erin) Dutter and their children, all of Lincoln, NE; cousins Becky (Leo) Franz, Stephanie Mason, and Cassie Jefferies; father Robert Carranza, step-mother Therese, and half-sisters, Monique and Danielle; his Aunt Judy Conforti, and cousins Kathie Ulibarrie, and Tammy Antonucci; his aunt Adele Carranza, and cousins Cindy Hollenbeck and Johnny Figueroa; his cousin Carla Player, and cousins Jill Kemmerer and Jo Gasperini.
