Jake & I started our Ranching life with Steve as our banker at First Nat’l in Chadron. He was always smiling and a great person to consider new ideas as part of a team. We will miss seeing him occasionally on his trips to the ranch. He just made the world a better place.

The Erwin family was a great addition to our Trendwood neighborhood. Steve was genuine, kind and always interested in acknowledging and celebrating others. We were lucky to get to know him (and the whole Erwin family!) Sending our prayers for peace and healing and our sympathy in your loss.

Over the years we enjoyed the company of Steve and his family up at the Cookshack in the NW Nebraska badlands. For each of us, it was a treat when Steve made reservations and we were pleased to serve you all. Steve always enjoyed Linda’s pies and a Cookshack steak. We always enjoyed his friendship.
– Mike & Linda Kesselring, Sioux County, Nebraska
Steve was such a genuine individual. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May God’s Peace comfort you.

So sorry for your loss Mrs. Erwin.

Janice and family- I am so saddened to hear of Steve’s passing. I am a retired Vascular Surgeon in Lincoln for 35 years and grew up in Laurel a few years ahead of Steve. We always shared our mutual respect for each other from our days at Laurel High School and in the business community in Lincoln. I currently live in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and just today heard of Steve’s passing. He was an active member of the Bryan Hospital board where I practiced during my tenure in Lincoln. Thanks for sharing him with us all over these years. My sincere condolences to you and his entire family.

Janice, Megan and Lindsay—our hearts ache with the loss of Steve. He was a neighbor for many years, but all of you were much more than neighbors—you were (and are, Megan) friends. We know his loss is a heartache for all of you and your family, and we offer our deepest sympathies and prayers. We share many good memories—which were often far more than a wave from his pickup truck. We know you also have great memories, and may they help sustain you during this most difficult time.
– Bruce and Lynn McKeag
Steve and Janice were great Lincoln East girls basketball supporters and outstanding parents to Megan and Lindsey. I will really miss talking to Steve at the state basketball tournaments.

My sincere sympathy to the family. I met Steve through our services on the Boards at Bryan Medical Center. Such a gentleman and kind person. My thoughts are with the family.

My name is John Fecht. I am now retired from the Nebraska Public Service Commission. I was the Director of the Grain Department for 30 years. I was also a member of the Downtown YMCA. I am 69 years old. I got to know Steve through work as he was a lender to grain elevator companies and I was a regulator. I spoke at luncheons he organized to help him and his clients better understand the grain elevator laws and rules and regulations. I would also see him at the YMCA over the noon hours and get to visit while working out. I’m also a golfer and Steve invited me to golf with him at the Country Club of Lincoln on more than one occasion. He also invited me on a golf trip to the Sandhills Golf Club in Mullen, Nebraska with several other men that was quite enjoyable. He would always get me tickets to University of Nebraska sporting events if I asked him which I usually did every year. He was a first class guy. A person who would enhance my day whenever I saw him. I am blessed to have known him. It breaks my heart to think he is gone. I did not know his wife and children but my heartfelt condolences to them. God bless you in your time of need.
