Stephen W. Carveth, M.D., 87, of Lincoln, passed away March 6, 2019. Born June 20, 1931 in Lincoln, NE to William W. and Rachel (Parham) Carveth. Retired Cardiovascular Surgeon.
Steve was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Copper Mountain Ski Patrol. Steve received many awards and served on several committees including: Howard Kramer Gray Award for Special Achievement in Surgery as a Fellow of Mayo Foundation; participated in the organization and development of Nebraska’s first coronary care unit, Bryan Memorial Hospital, Lincoln, NE; planned, organized and developed the Life Support Unit, Nebraska Memorial Stadium; planned, organized and developed the Open Heart Program, Bryan Memorial Hospital; Chairman, Advanced Life Support Subcommittee, American Heart Association; Chairman, Emergency Cardiac Care Committee, American Heart Association; member, Social Community Intervention Program Committee, Lincoln Public Schools; Jack G. Elliott Award, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE; Nebraska Board, Fellowship of Christian Athletes; National Board of Trustees, Fellowship of Christian Athletes; former Board of Elders/Deacon of Westminster Presbyterian Church; President, Western Trauma Association; Board of Directors, Lighthouse, Lincoln, NE; award for contributions in the field of CPR and ECC, American Heart Association’s National Conference on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Care, Dallas, TX. He had also served in the U. S. Army Medical Corps 10th Evacuation Hospital (1962-1964).
Steve and his wife Beth climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro while they were in their 60’s.
Family members include his wife, Beth; son William (Joni) Carveth, and their family: daughter Kristin (Shawn) DeWitt and their daughter Madison and baby on the way; son Stephen (Becky) Carveth; daughter Carolyn (Rob) Otte and their family: daughter Sarah (Jeff) Salem and their children, Lily, Michael, Stephen, son Stephen (Molly) Otte and their daughter Poppy, daughter Julia (Scott) Gaebler and baby on the way; son Jim (Kim) Carveth and their children Karen and significant other Casey Rietz, Gentry and Brooks; stepdaughter Julie (John) Batug and their children Madison and Tabor; stepson Jim Ness. Preceded in death by wife Norma, parents Bill and Rachel Carveth, sisters Joan McKee and Sara Clay and great granddaughter Anna Rose Salem.
A Life Celebration Gathering will be held from 6-8:00 pm Friday (3-8-19) Westminster Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.
Memorial Service: 3:00 pm Saturday (3-9-19) Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd. with Rev. Dr. Val Putnam officiating.
