I have fond memories of Shirley from the time we spent together on the University of Nebraska Panhellenic Alumnae Advisory Board during the 1960s and 70s. Shirley was always a valuable member of our board and a joy to know and talk with. I am so sorry for your loss.

Paul and I (Sherri Johnson) mostly knew Shirley and Palmer through UNL Volleyball. We belonged to the Match Club. We remember Shirley working so hard to get the Match Club booth ready to sell T-shirts and lining up volunteers. We also did some traveling to away games with them. Our seats at the Coliseum were close to each other. When we would see each other we would greet each other as “Hello Mrs. Johnson”. We have missed seeing her at the games the last few years. The family connection actually goes back many, many years. Paul’s parents were Shirley and Delbert Johnson. Delbert was the contractor that built Dr. Gorthey and Dr. Johnson’s office building at 35th and O street. He also built their apartment buildings near 50th & St. Paul and 44th & Leighton. Thinking of Shirley, I always see her smile and hear her laugh. The memory always brings a smile to my face and warms my heart. Good-bye Mrs. Johnson

Palmer and Shirley were friends of my late parents, Keay and Meredith Hachiya. Shirley was dear friend of my mother’s, and my friend as she was an alumna of Alpha Xi Delta. Sending love and light to all who knew and loved Shirley.
