Moved to Nebraska, the home state for the Shields family. Graduated from Lincoln Northeast in 1943. A WW II Navy veteran. Roscoe met Leona Christensen, from Arnold, Nebraska, and they married in 1949. The focus of Roscoe’s career has been in the visual arts and education. His art teaching career stated at Fairbury and then Norfolk. In 1954 he took a position with University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He remained on the UNL staff for forty years. During that time, he pioneered art education through television at NETV.
Roscoe graduated from the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, B.F.A., Pennsylvania State University, State College, M.Ed. & D. Ed.
Survived by children Mark and Kay Shields, Martin and Judy Shields, Christi and Steve Dermann, sister in laws Nancy Shields and Judy Christensen, sister and brother-in-law Maria and David Polly, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by wife, Leona, sister and brother-in-law Pat and Jerry Delhay, brother Bill Shields, sister-in-law Marion Rakow, brother-in-law Loren Christensen, and grandson-in-law Scott Hansen.
