Roger Dean Miner passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born June 22, 1943 in Mason City, IA to Eleanor (Huntley) Miner and Gilbert Miner of Floyd, IA.
Roger graduated from Charles City High School in 1961. He attended linotype school and worked briefly at the Platte Enterprise in Platte, SD and The Daily Capital Journal in Pierre, SD.
In 1963 he was united in marriage to Linda Dollman of Platte, SD. To this union 4 children were born; Stephanie Miner Bertagnole, David Miner, Tim Miner, and Teresa Miner. After his marriage to Linda Dollman Miner, he moved to Waukesha, WI where he attended college for 2 years and was employed by the Waukesha Freeman newspaper and then the Milwaukee Journal before moving to Cascade, MT where he and Linda operated a small weekly newspaper, the Cascade Courier. From there he was employed by Sandhills Publishing for 20 years retiring in January 2002. His hobbies were photography, woodworking, writing children’s stories, and he loved fishing with his boys.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert Lawson Miner and Eleanor (Huntley) Miner of Floyd, IA. He is survived by Linda, his children and 5 grandchildren; Oskar Bertagnole of Berkeley, CA, Bryan Miner, Jacob Miner, Kyle Miner and Jade Perry Miner of Lincoln. He is survived by sister Patricia Mae Miner Rademacher of Helena, MT and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday (9-20-18) Roper and Sons O Street Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Capital Humane Society in Lincoln, NE.
Visitation with family present from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Roper and Sons O Street Chapel.
