Robert D. Kechely, 91, formerly of Lincoln, passed away August 5, 2021, in Firth, NE. Born May 4, 1930, the last of 8 children, to Clarence and Nancy (Rosecrans) Kechely.
Robert was an avid athlete and participated in football, basketball, and baseball, at the high school and college level. He graduated with his bachelor’s degree from Peru State College and later earned his master’s degree. He served, following in his brothers’ footsteps, in the military. He was a sailor in the U.S Navy.
Robert was a physical education teacher and athletic director for Lincoln Public Schools at Culler Jr. High. He was a founding member and elder at Cornerstone Christian Church. He started Joy Ministry through the church. In his later years he enjoyed traveling, visiting with family, writing songs, and poetry.
Family members include his daughters Cynthia (Brian) Walker and Christine (Chad) Parlier; son Mark (Penny) Kechely; grandchildren Rebecca (Wayne) Harris, Elizabeth (Josh) Gruntorad, Benjamin (Amanda) Walker, Nicole (Rob) Hendrix, Mikhail Parlier (Masha Nolte), Alissa (John) Kaster, Travis Kechely, Alayna Kechely (James Matthes), Rachel Kechely (Brody Yost), Katherine Kechely (fiancé Kaleb Warkentin); 25 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by both wives Arlyss and Maudine, his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters, son Kurt and, grandson Nathan Parlier.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday (8-12-21) Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive. Livestream available ten minutes prior to service at roperandsons.com/livestream.
Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. in the Prairie Union Cemetery, Shubert, NE.
Memorials may be given to the family for future designation.
