Robert Allen Martens, 92, of Lincoln, passed away November 12, 2015. Born October 27, 1923 in Lincoln, NE to John H. and Selma M. (Hansen) Martens. WWII U. S. Army Veteran where he served in Admiral Halsey’s and George MacArthur’s headquarters in the South Pacific handling secret cables. Ret. 1986, after 34 years as owner of Texaco and Firestone dealerships and a used car dealership.
Graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, UNL Prince Kosmet 1946 and Phalanx in the ROTC. Bob was also a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Executive Club of Lincoln, Score of Lincoln and Hy-Vee Coffee Club of Lincoln.
Family members include his daughter, Nancy Martens Hass (Dean); sons, Robert J. (Galene) Martens; Steven J. (Dallas) Martens; sister, Doris Buxton; grandchildren, Scott (Carey) Hass, Ben (Patty) Martens, Zachary (Kate) Martens, Stuart (Katie) Martens, Marshall (Ellen) Martens, Julie (Jeff) O’Connor, Sydney (David) Ralls, Mollie (David) vonKampen; great-grandchildren, Maddox Martens, Sawyer Martens, Gretta vonKampen, Zoe Martens, Jacob O’Connor, Jackson O’Connor, Carter Martens; brothers-in-law, Jim (Kathleen) Cox, Jerry (Susie) Cox; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, wife, Mary Cox Martens, brother-in-law James Buxton.
Visitation: 5:00pm-8:00pm Monday (11-16-15) with family greetings friends from 6:00p-7:00pm at Roper and Sons Funeral Home, 4300 O Street.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (11-17-15) Christ Lutheran Church, 4325 Sumner Street with Rev. Dr. Luke Schnake officiating.
