Obituary

Rev. Robert Snow

January 4, 1943 - October 2, 2023

The Rev. Robert Snow, 80, died, October 2nd, 2023 blanketed in the prayers of his family and friends. Bob was born January 4, 1943, in Great Falls, Montana to Gerald and Alice Snow.

Bob graduated from Omaha Benson High School. He attended the University of Nebraska where he majored in Journalism. While at the University he met Ellen Fay McKenzie and they were married on September 22, 1963. They had two daughters, Tracey Peterson, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Robbin Snow, Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, and numerous foster children including Georgine Schizas and Shannon Goode. They have five grandchildren.

While attending the University, Bob was a student assistant at Nebraska Educational Television. Upon graduation he went to work for NEBRASKALand Magazine where he became Senior Associate Editor. In 1970 Bob accepted a position of Public Relation director at the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. In 1972 he accepted a position at the Lincoln Safety Action Project. When funds for this federal project expired, he was appointed Public Assistance Officer for the Lincoln Public Works Department. Mayor Helen Boosalis appointed Bob as the first Division head of the Citizen Information Center.

In that role Bob was involved in logistics for the first Farm Aide in Memorial Stadium. His office was also responsible for assisting movie companies including Terms of Endearment. He pioneered community events such as the Star City Holiday parade. The office also coordinated with neighborhood groups.

Bob was ordained as a Deacon in the Episcopal church on Nov. 8, 1985. He served as part-time assistant at St. Matthews Episcopal Church. He was a Chaplain at the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center and a volunteer police and fire Chaplain.

In 1994 Bob and Ellen entered the mission field, first going to Costa Rica to learn Spanish and then to the Dominican Republic where they served for 16 years. Bob served as an Assistant to the Episcopal Bishop of the Dominican Republic.

Bob lived his life with a drive and passion for service unmatched by those around him. He has many accolades and accomplishments however, his greatest impact was living by the spirit and love which lives on through all those survived by him. He lived with purpose and has inspired so many to do the same. His accomplishments and accolades pale in comparison to the way he has taught us to live. His example of love and compassion will live on and we will strive daily to live as he did. Below are just a few of the many accomplishments that inspire us:

-Recognized by the United States Embassy in the Dominican Republic for Bob and Ellen’s work within the Dominican Republic (2006).

-Received the Bishops Cross from Nebraska Episcopal Diocese for Bob and Ellen missionary work.

-Recognized by the National Association of Episcopal Deacons for his mission work.

-Episcopal Marriage Encounter presenters, including Marriage Encounter for the Deaf.

-Presenters for the first Episcopal Happenings in Nebraska and the Dominican Republic.

– Presenter for spiritual retreats for Chuck Colson Prison Ministries.

The Rev. Snow is survived by his wife, Ellen, brothers Rick (Molly) Snow, Dave (Leigh) Snow, Dan Snow, daughters Tracey (Jeff) Peterson, Robbin Snow (Dennis Bacon), Grandchildren Lewis (Brogan) Monroe, Julia (Kevin McCaskill) Peterson, Emilia Monroe (Gerrod Bailey), Nicole Peterson (Hunter Creglow), Ashley Peterson. Numerous nephews, a niece, and a multitude of great nephews and nieces.

A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, October 24th at 4 pm; Holy Trinity Episcopal Church (6001 A Street, Lincoln, Nebraska).

To celebrate the beauty of the Dominican Republic, please wear vibrant colors. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Colegio Kids (Educational Scholarships for children in the DR), UNL College of Journalism or The Hub (The HUB is to provide unconditional support and programming for young people as they become productive, independent and active members of the community).

Bob Snow was one of the great servants of God in the Diocese of Nebraska–he and his wife Ellen have for decades been an example to all of us. During tough times in our lives, the Snows remained true friends. Bob’s work will continue to impact others long after his earthly life is over. May he go from arms of love in this world to arms of greater love in the next.
