Ramona Irene Riley, 88, of Lincoln passed away July 18, 2018, from breast cancer, surrounded by her loved ones. Cancer never defeated her spirit. She was born August 5, 1929 to Gus and Helen (Parker) Hanika on a farm east of Shubert, NE. She graduated from Shubert High School in 1946 and attended Doane College where she graduated with her degree in Education in 1950. After teaching high school English and History, in Loup City and Tecumseh, Ramona married Ken Riley, of Crete, settled in Lincoln and raised four daughters.
Ramona enjoyed sports, gardening, fishing, walking, bowling, reading, and working crossword puzzles, but most of all, spending time with her family. She was a 65 year member of Westminster Presbyterian Church (Circle 5), a life member of VFW Auxiliary 131, and a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post #3.
Ramona leaves behind her daughters Carol (Gary) Hilty, Colorado Springs, CO, Paula (Ellis) Mayer, Parker, CO, Denise (Rod) Baker, Tulsa, OK, and Helen Riley, Golden, CO; grandchildren Aaron, Adam, Evan, Jamie, Hannah, Ali and Riley; great-grandchildren Lydia, Farrah, Barron, Abram, Mason, Breana, Ramona, Presley and Gatlin; 5 step-grandchildren and 9 step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Dorothy Henning, Crete. She was preceded in death by her husband Ken; her parents; and brothers Austin, Roy and Glen Hanika.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Woodlands who provided her with loving support during her final weeks of life.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday (7-23-18) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
