Nancy was born in Benton Harbor, MI, on July 12, 1936, the youngest of four children born to Lee and Corabelle Taggart. She was united in marriage to Albert Walter Winseman on November 21, 1956, in Peru, Nebraska. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Peru State College and received her Master of Arts degree from Concordia Teacher’s College.
Nancy was a life-long educator, investing in children throughout her 30-year teaching career. She began by creating her own preschools, and then spent the majority of her career in public school early elementary education. She touched the lives of hundreds of children across the state throughout her time as a teacher, and many of her students as adults have fond memories of their time with Mrs. Winseman.
Nancy loved music and came from a musical family. One of her greatest joys was accompanying Al and Jeff during their early years as musicians, helping them with their auditions and many performances. She sang in many church and community choirs over the years, and while in her 80s particularly enjoyed singing in the choir at the Heritage Assisted Living Community where she lived for four years.
She was a devoted mother to her two sons, paving the way for their education and professional accomplishments. Nancy loved her daughters-in-law as her own, and treasured the close relationships she had with them. She loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother; spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a highlight of her life.
Nancy was a creative spirit. She loved making games and puzzles, and writing songs and original lyrics for family and social gatherings. Many colleagues, friends, and family members have been lovingly roasted by Nancy’s “revised” Broadway show tunes.
Nancy had a way of lighting up a room and had such an effervescent spirit. She will always be remembered for her smiles and the sunny disposition she shared with just about everyone. Those of us who were blessed to know her and be loved by her will miss her dearly, and she will live on in our hearts as her spirit lives on in the presence of God for all eternity.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leland and Corabelle Taggart, her husband Albert W. Winseman, her sisters Joanne Taggart and Marilou Taggart, her brother James Taggart, her sister-in-law Valerie Taggart, and her daughter-in-law Gwendolyn (Wirta) Winseman.
