Nancy Ellen Birch, 79 of Lincoln, passed away February 27, 2018. Born September 10, 1938 in York, NE to Henry and Nellie (Lantz) Schneider. Married to Gordon Birch in York, NE on August 24, 1958. Nancy was an accomplished musician from an early age, playing the piano and organ for church services, accompanying the York High School chorus, and played first chair violin for the York High orchestra. She taught private piano and organ lessons in her home for many years and at the time of her death was the accompanist for the 8th grade choir at Culler Jr. High School. She was an active member of the music ministry team at St. Mark’s Methodist Church as a choral member and accompanist to the Men’s quartet and children’s choirs. During that time, she also worked for and “retired” from General Casualty Insurance Company with over 20 years of service. Nancy’s family was very important to her. She especially loved her grandchildren and was an amazing mother to every stray cat and dog her kids brought home. She was energized by young people and attended every band concert, choir concert and sporting event her family participated in, but especially liked traveling around the country with the St. Mark’s Youth group on their annual mission trips, even long after her kids were no longer youth.
