Nancy Ellen (Hans) Johnson was born December 3, 1945 in Seward, Nebraska to Chester and Gertrude (Ihde) Hans and passed away at home on December 7, 2019. She was baptized in God’s love on January 6, 1946 and confirmed on April 10, 1960. Nancy attended St. John’s Lutheran School in Seward from Kindergarten through 8th grade and then attended Seward High School where she graduated in 1964. Following her graduation she went to work for Protective Fire and Casualty Company as a fire underwriter from May 1964 to May 1968.
In May of 1968 she married Leon (Lonny) Johnson in Reno, Nevada. The couple resided in West Point, NE and were blessed with 2 children, Thomas L. in 1968 and Andrea Melissa in 1975. While in West Point she worked for the Cuming County Extension Service and was involved with the Up and Cuming Gals Extension Club.
In 1975 began a series of moves for the family, starting with Mason City, IL; Booneville, MO and finally to Lexington, NE in 1979. While in Lexington, Nancy was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she attended Sunday school and church, taught Vacation Bible School and served on various ladies’ guilds.
Nancy was always a supportive mother and volunteered with her children’s 4-H clubs, Lexington Swim Association, PTO, Youth Bowling, Lexington Booster Club and many other activities. She was always present at sporting events, dance recitals, Christmas programs and any other time her children were participating.
In 1994, she and Lonny divorced and she moved to Lincoln. Once in Lincoln she attended Southeast Community College for 2 years when she was offered a job by the Lancaster County Attorney’s office. She remained at that job serving in various capacities until her retirement in 2018. Nancy was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lincoln and attended services regularly until her heath prohibited.
Nancy is survived by her sisters, Linda (Roy) Ehrlich of Seward, NE; Judy (Ray) Landenberger of Diller, NE; a son Tom (Kris) Johnson of Boise, ID; a daughter Andrea (Eric) Selby of Tulsa, OK; 7 grandchildren: Cathy, Sarah, John, Amanda and Grace Johnson and Henry and Ellie Selby; and 2 great grandchildren: Clayton and Aubrey as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters; Della Miers and Marjorie Junge and a brother Dick Hans.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday (12-12-19) Christ Lutheran Church, 4325 Sumner Street.
