Mrs. Yvonne Shoemaker of Denton, passed away Saturday evening November 2nd, 2019, at her residence. She was born February 26, 1932 in Floyd County Iowa to Lenore and Marvin Fluhrer. When she was in 2nd grade the family moved to Wyoming Illinois where she graduated high school, was a dance teacher for several years and met her husband Don Shoemaker. He was in the Air Force when he proposed and she received her engagement ring by mail!
They moved to Spokane, Washington while Don was in the service, then off to join the family truck stop business in Ventura, California. Two children were born there, Holly and Randy, and in 1967 they moved back to the midwest to Lincoln, Nebraska where along with family members bought another truck stop!
She was a loving homemaker, mother and irreplaceable grandmother, spreading joy and love through the very air around her. She was a member of First Plymouth Church, serving on the church’s video crew for 17 years, as well as in the First Plymouth Women’s Guild. She served as the Lincoln General Hospital Gift Shop Chairman during her time as a volunteer there as well as on the Yankee Hill School PTA. She was an active PEO member and past president, a member of Her Majesty’s Royal NE Patrol MG Club, a member with her husband of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 569, The Midwest Navioneers and during her time in California, a member of a Sweet Adeline’s chorus.
Yvonne was truly passionate about creating and providing the best life for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. From homemade Halloween costumes to sugar eggs on Easter and themed birthday parties for every family member, complete with homemade ice cream! She was a lover of shoes, Victorian decor, hosting parties, Barbershop music, MG’s and her homemade cookies were legendary! But most of all she loved her family, and will be sorely missed.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Don Shoemaker. She is survived by a daughter Holly (Jonathan) Dixon of Denton; a son Randy (Anne) Shoemaker of Lincoln; granddaughters Danae Peterson, Brooke and Kimberly Shoemaker, one great granddaughter, Matilda Peterson all of Lincoln; a sister, Nola Graves of Illinois, a brother, Norm Fluhrer of California, brother-in-law Roger (Sue) Shoemaker of Lincoln, and many nieces and nephews, all of whose lives she has enriched beyond measure.
