Michael Scott Whitney, 70, longtime resident of Lincoln, NE, devoted husband and father, entered into rest on September 23, 2024, after complications in recovery from a heart attack and triple bypass surgery. Born on June 25, 1954, to Grant Whitney and Phyllis Whitney (née Draper). Michael was the second of six siblings.

He was a lifetime fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers, finally seeing the latter win the World Series in 2023. Inspired by his father’s work, he had a fascination for exploring the family’s history and genealogy. He was a dedicated and compassionate husband and caregiver to his wife, and a proud, loving father of his two sons.

I had the honor and privilege to work with Mike @ KHAT 106.3 FM in Lincoln while I was in college back in the late 80’s. He taught me so much back then and I was saddened to hear about his passing. May God bless you all!

Back in junior high at Clarinda, we started a top 40 rock band. He played the bass guitar, was very talented, knew all the songs, and was a lot of fun to play with.

I worked with Mike in the 70’s at KMA in Shenandoah, Iowa and enjoyed his easy going style, great voice and laughter. My condolences to his wife Joyce and family.

Mike and I go way back to the mid 80’s in Lincoln Radio! We worked at 3 stations together…KFOR 1240…106.3 KHAT and KEZG (EZ-107) ! By far it was at KHAT where we had the most fun (1986-89) We shared our love for our baseball teams! His Texas Rangers and my Baltimore Orioles! We shared some incredible stories about our Radio careers….there were times where I had Mike laughing so hard seconds before his news casts I thought he’d NEVER be able to compose himself and go on the air ..but Mike being the professional he was got it together and went on the air without missing a beat! We both got out of Radio in the 90’s but always kept in touch and saw each other at KHAT reunions! I am sorry I lost my “Broadcasting Buddy”!! Gone too soon! Rest easy Mike…I will see you on the other side when it’s my turn! David “Coach” Klein
