Maurice LaMoine (Mort) Proett

Maurice LaMoine (Mort) Proett, 85, passed away July 23, 2018, at the Golden Living-Valhaven Rehabilitation in Valley, NE. He was born on June 14, 1933, in Glenville, NE to Oliver B. and Florence C. (Rehn) Proett. In his younger years, he attended elementary school in Gresham, Nebraska. Growing up he loved to raise Shetland ponies and continuously won with his special pony named Flash. In 1942, Maurice moved to Wayne, Nebraska with this family. One of his most prized possessions throughout his years was his Oakland Sedan which he would drive endlessly with a smile on his face. He later graduated from Wayne High School in 1952. Maurice was a bakery owner who enjoyed horse racing, playing keno, Lawrence Welk, and all sports, especially baseball and Nebraska football.

Family members include his daughters Vickie (Rick) Weaver, Baldwin City, KS, Jeannie Gardner, Wayzata, MN, Nancie (Garry) Stoltenberg, Lincoln, NE, Mary (Andy) Kroupa, Omaha, NE, Susie Bowers, Norfolk, NE, and Kristin (Dr. Mark) Wilkowske, Edina, MN; sons Daniel (Nancy) Proett, Roca, NE, Darren Proett, Fremont, NE and Douglas Proett, Hutchinson, KS; mother of his children, Joann Proett; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; brothers Fred (Cheryl) Proett, Sandy, OR, Oliver, Jr. (Georgeann) Proett, Anaheim, CA and Robert (Debbie) Proett, Lincoln, NE; sister Virginia Wilson, Plano, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends; He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Aubrey and brother in law Earl Wilson.

Celebration of Maurice’s life will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday August 6, 2018 at Roper and Sons Funeral Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ St, Lincoln, NE. No visitation/cremation.

Memorials may be given to the family for a future designation.
