Mary Helen Copple, 93, of Lincoln passed away peacefully just a few hours after having a stroke on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Bryan Hospital.
Mary was born on October 24, 1923 in Roca, Nebraska to Howard and Fern Sinclair. She spent her childhood in Roca with her parents and brother, Richard Sinclair. After high school, Mary attended the University of Nebraska, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She worked as a kindergarten teacher following her graduation.
Mary met her husband, Edward Copple, at the University and they were married sixty-nine years ago on June 27, 1948. Ed and Mary had four children together. Mary was a wonderful and loving wife and mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She cherished spending time with her family.
Mary and Ed were dedicated to giving back to the community. Their contributions included donations for the student athlete building at Seacrest Field and the new Copple Family YMCA. She, along with her husband, received the charity award from the Lincoln Community Foundation in 2012.
Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Sinclair and son, Scott Copple. She is survived by her husband, her two sons, Jimmy Copple and Ken Copple, and her daughter-in-law, Rory Copple. Mary had five grandchildren: Keenan Copple (married to Phil Hanceford), Caitlin Routzahn (married to Gabriel Routzahn), Zach Copple, Will Copple (married to Alissa Copple) and Amanda Copple. Mary also had four great grandchildren: Zeke Routzahn, Evelyn Routzahn, Hazel Hanceford and Sawyer Copple.
As per Mary’s wishes there will just be a private family memorial service.
