Mary Elizabeth Carey, 94, Lincoln, passed away February 16, 2017. Born January 7, 1923 in Evanston, Wyoming. Graduated from the University of Wyoming and received her Master’s Degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she was a member of the Mortar Board. Mary worked as a dietitian at the V.A. in Lincoln, the Dairy Council where she had her own cooking show called Creative Cookery, and worked at Bryan Hospital for 22 years as Food Service Director. Mary was a member of DACOWITS (Defense Advisory Commission on Women in the service) and American Dietetics Association.
She was an avid Nebraska Football fan, loved Yankee baseball, opera, traveling, reading, puzzles and history. Mary was a resident of Lincoln for over 60 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennie Gossett; granddaughter, Mary Gossett, of Minneapolis, MN. Preceded in death by her husband, Jack Carey.
Memorial Service: 4:00 p.m. Saturday (2-18-17) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
