Obituary

Marlyn D. Coad

March 5, 1934 - July 3, 2024

Marlyn Dee Coad (90) went to be with the Lord on July 3rd, 2024 in Lincoln Nebraska.

Marlyn was born on March 5, 1934, in Albion Nebraska to Harold & Laura (King) Herse. She graduated from High school there where she was active in the music program and was the drum majorette for her band. She was also very active in 4-H where she was an accomplished seamstress. She went on to attend the University of Nebraska where she studied music and was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority. While she was there, she and her friend played dual pianos for competitions.

In 1955 she married William Misko and they moved to Long Beach CA. After their first child, Steve was born, they moved back to Lincoln Nebraska where their other 2 children, Terri and Jerry were born. Soon after moved to Lexington Nebraska (specifically Johnson Lake) where all the children spent their school years. When they moved to Johnson Lake, they owned and operated Sportsman’s Paradise for a time until Marlyn was diagnosed with MS.

In 1974 her husband Bill died, and she continued raising children while living at Johnson Lake. When they first moved to North Cove to live, they were the only full time home owners in that area. They all loved their time living the lake life quiet all week and lots of activity on the weekends.

On December 9, 1986, she married Duane Coad. After several years living in town, they moved to Clearwater Florida. Shortly after their move to Florida Duane died. Marlyn continued to live there until her health brought her to Lincoln Nebraska in 2013 to be closer to her daughter, grandson and great grandchildren. Until her death she lived at Gateway Vista. When she was able, she attended many sporting events and birthday parties with the great grandkids. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star and attended Starcraft chapter. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln. She will miss all her Church and Star friends.

Despite the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 34 it didn’t stop her from leading a full life to the end.

She is survived by her son Jerry (Elissa) and daughter Terri (Steve) Sherman. Grandson Matthew Sherman, Lueck Misko and granddaughters Kephanie Misko and Miranda (John) Harrihill. Great grandchildren, Ellie, Levi, Madelyn, Ezra and Solomon. Niece Amanda (Tom) Hilburn

She was preceded in death by her mother and father Harold and Laura. Her husband Bill and a son Steve. Sister and brother-in-Law, Marie and Blaine Berg and niece Renee Vanderhoff.

Services will be held on Wednesday July 10th at 3:00pm at First Presbyterian Church, 840 S 17th Street. Memorials are suggested to the church.
