Mark William Dittman

March 18, 1991 - January 5, 2024

In Loving Memory of Mark William Dittman
March 18, 1991 – January 5, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Mark William Dittman, a cherished son, brother, and friend. Mark was born on March 18, 1991, in Evanston, Illinois, and left us on January 5, 2024, at the age of 32.

He grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he lived from the age of three, and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Mark is lovingly remembered by his parents, John and Susan Dittman; his sister, Allison Dittman (Seth Brauning); and his brothers, Grant and Greg Dittman (Christina Lucas).

Mark loved spending time with his family and friends, traveling, exploring, and continuously learning. He showed his passions in many ways, such as learning to surf, speaking Portuguese in just two months, and consistently striving to improve his health.

Mark’s passing leaves us with immense grief. Yet, in our mourning, we remember the beautiful moments of laughter and love he shared with us. His legacy is defined by how he lived—with kindness, perseverance, and a deep love for his family, friends, and Jesus.

We love you so much, Mark. You will forever be in our hearts.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 11 am at Lincoln Berean Church. Livestreamed recording available below.

Memorials may be made in Mark’s memory to the Bryan Foundation (Mark William Dittman Memorial Fund) at 1600 S. 48th St. Lincoln, NE 68506, to support and further strengthen mental healthcare in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Our family was so blessed to know Mark and his beautiful family. Our son Jared couldn’t have asked for a better lifelong friend than Mark. He was a kind soul that walked as a humble spirit in his life. He will be greatly missed but remembered as a young man that made this world a better place for those that had the privilege of knowing him. We love you Mark and and will always hold you close to our hearts.

So sorry to the entire Dittman Family on the loss of your Dear Son, & Brother. During these times we realize as Christians what it truly means to be Jesus followers, and the most comforting thing is we know where Mark is now in his arms. No more pain or suffering and with his Lord & Savior.

Mark occasionally accompanied his grandmother Alice to church at Saint Paul some years ago, and they often sat in front of me. Every time I spoke to him, I sensed what a gentle soul Mark was and I felt his silent anguish as he struggled to find his way in life. Now he is at peace and has joined his beloved grandmother for all Eternity. May Mark’s memory be a blessing to all who knew him.

As a Junior in high school I often feared that I was annoying my friends and family. After Mark transferred to East that year, and for several years after graduation, Mark’s friendship meant so much because he never made me feel like I had annoyed him even when we disagreed or I behaved stupidly. He truly was the type of compassionate, empathetic, curious friend that made people he was with feel heard, seen, and appreciated. A truly heartbreaking loss. Mark’s friendship and memory will always be a blessing to me as I know it will be to so many others.

John and family—words cannot adequately express our sorrow in the loss of Mark. Losing a child is one of life’s most difficult moments, but we are happy that many good memories remain. May these times help sustain all of you in the days ahead. Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies to all of you.
