Dean received a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Agronomy from University of Nebraska in 1975.
He met Barbara while in college and they were married in 1975. They lived in Fairbury, Nebraska, then Farnhamville, Iowa and then moved back to the farm in 1978. They farmed there until 2001, and then he worked for the Farm Service agency in Fort Morgan and Lamar, Colorado, then Ogallala, Nebraska. In 2004, he joined the staff at Points West Community Bank in Julesburg, Colorado and worked there until his retirement in 2019. He served on the elevator board, fire department, EMT, rural fire district board in Gurley, Weyerts Church treasurer, Weyerts Church president, 4-H leader and baseball coach.
Dean enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting and shooting. His focus in life was his wife Barbara of nearly 50 years, his children, Michelle, Dallas and Lea, and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Michelle and Chad Dormann of Lisco, son Dallas Jurgens of Lincoln, and daughter Lea Fortin of Lincoln, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild, sisters Sharon and Leonard Warner of Jacksonville, FL, Judy and Mike Spillane of Grand Junction, CO, Jolene and Dub Stringer of Tempe, AZ, Mary and Dan Tresnak of Kerrville, TX, many nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.
Dean is preceded in death by parents, Louis and Muriel Jurgens, grandparents, John and Mary Jurgens, and grandparents, Richard and Isabelle Volkman.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Weyerts Immanuel Lutheran Church, 13920 Road 46, Lodgepole, NE 69149.
