Lee Volker, 79, of Walton, NE passed away at home late Friday, March 11, 2022. Lee was born on October 24, 1942 in Humboldt, NE to Lawrence and Lenora(Koehler) Volker.

The eldest of five siblings, Lee grew-up on his family’s farm in Humboldt and was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church. He often hosted friends and family and always had a joke or an engaging story to share. He lead an abundant life helping and serving others. He strongly believed in donating time and resources to his community and volunteered at Sheridan Lutheran Church, Nebraska Humane Society and Bridges To Hope.

He eventually moved back to Nebraska and worked for Norden Labs, SmithKline Beecham Animal Health, Pfizer and the University of Nebraska. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association and kept in close contact with many friends from veterinary school. Lee’s true passion was spending time working on the original Volker homestead in Humboldt, NE. He enjoyed driving tractors, cutting wood and farming. Leland brightened my entire day the first time I met him with his little pill bottle full of chocolates and quick-witted jokes. While I was not blessed to know Leland for long, we had many deep/meaningful conversations about everything under the sun. My fellow nurses and I will dearly miss him but will always remember the laughs we shared.

To the Family of Lee Volker: I lived on First Floor, Burr Hall ’60 -’64 and got to know Lee. He always had a smile, a kind word for everyone and just a great guy. I recall that from “early on” in College his goal was to get his DVM which is tough, but he did it! I lost touch with Lee and Jeanette over the years and was saddened to learn of his passing. Hold tight to all the good memories.

I was a Johnson High School friend of Lee and his siblings. We used to share the 9-mile ride to school as we were athletic teammates. Lee taught me how to be a tough but gentle quarterback, both on and off the field. He was highly respected by teammates and schoolmates as well. May he rest in peace! God’s blessings to his family.
