Lawrence E. “Larry” Vaughan, Ed.D., 89, of Lincoln, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Born August 4, 1922 in Brunswick, NE to J. Gordon and Beatrice F. (Van Kirk) Vaughan. Professor of Education, Nebraska Wesleyan University. Also taught at secondary level in various public schools; assistant, associate and full professor at NWU. Attended Lincoln Public Schools; 1940 graduate, Lincoln High School.
Veteran World War II, U.S. Army Engineers. Member Theta Chi Fraternity, Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Delta Kappa, Pi Gamma Mu; Past President, Capital City Kiwanis Club, Kiwanis Division 16, Lt. Governor and Governor Nebraska Iowa District Kiwanis International, American Legion Post #3, St Mark’s United Methodist Church, member, Tom Osborne’s Teammates; Life Member National Education Association and Kiwanis International, VFW Post 7722. Past president Nebraska School Counselors and Lincoln Capital City Education Association, Nebraska School Counselors, Lincoln Capital City Education Association; member Nebraska School Masters Club, NWU Sunflower Club and Booster Club. Member and soloist in Lincoln Senior Chorus. Trustee Lincoln Public Schools Foundation.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth E. Vaughan of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Grace (David) Evans, Ithaca, NY and brother-in-law, Wendell Atchison, Cozad, NE; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; sons, Victor and Gerald Vaughan.
Memorial service: 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 4, 2012, St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 8550 Pioneers Blvd.
