Laverne Flowers, 98, Lincoln, died Monday (6-30-08). Born Firth, NE (7-29-1909) to Frank and Lena (Rap) Wismer. Ret. Registered Nurse, Bryan Memorial Hospital, 20 years. Member: Community of Christ Church; Vesper Rebekah 375 Past Noble Grand Club; Past District Deputy President Harrington LEA Starcraft 307 Starcraft Kensington Burlington Northern Veterans; Past President Burlington Auxiliary Club; Past President Burlington Denver Southwest Region; Burlington Cornhusker Club; Cornhusker Clown; Bethany Women’s Club; first president AARP 2152 North Bluff Extension Club; volunteer in admitting at Bryan Memorial Hospital; information desk at City/County Building; Meals On Wheels; Havelock Senior Center; retired receptionist for Roper & Sons Havelock Chapel. Laverne devoted her life to her family and friends. She took pride in her beautiful yard that was filled with many flowers. She loved baseball and was a big fan of the Atlanta Braves. She loved to read and enjoyed giving back to her community.
Family members include foster son: William and wife Valerie Ellsworth, Lincoln; grandsons: Troy Ellsworth, Lincoln; Chad Ellsworth (Kristen), Minneapolis, MN; 3 special grandchildren: Mike Flowers (Alice), Lincoln; Debbra Stanford and special friend Myron Grant, Fairmont, NE; Harold Flowers (Kris), Lincoln; 10 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband Earl, parents, son – Jackey Flowers, grandson – Rick Ellsworth, great grandson – Carlton Stanford, sister Hazel Ray of Las Vegas, NV, brother C.J. ‘Jim’ Wismer of Lincoln.
