Kazuo (Kaz) Tada, 86, Lincoln, died Sunday (1-24-10). Born (8-17-23) in Seattle, Washington to Kinzo and Takeyo (Teshirogi) Tada. When he was a freshman at the University of Washington his family was evacuated from the west coast and sent to an internment camp in Idaho. He immediately applied to UNL since he had a cousin living in Lincoln. The quota for Americans of Japanese ancestry was filled. His application to Nebraska Wesleyan was accepted. Upon graduation he was hired by a newly formed Photographic service at UNL as an artist. He later became the Manager of Photo Productions. He retired from UNL after 46 years. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry, was an usher and reader. Kaz loved to fish and made his own rods, lures, and tied fishing flies. After retiring he helped design and build equipment for students with disabilities so that they could find jobs.
Kaz is survived by his wife, Justyn, sisters: Carol Moriguchi, Seattle, WA, Norma Heen, Honolulu; sisters-in-law: Marianne Tada, Seattle, WA, Jeane Thomas, Lincoln. Preceded in death by parents and three brothers.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (1-30-10) St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 2325 South 24th St. (02).
