December 16, 1949 - July 5, 2024

Kathy Marshall, 74, of Lincoln, NE, passed away July 5, 2024. She was born in Sac City, Iowa on December 16, 1949 to Everett and Irene (Barnes) Vonehwegen. Growing up on a small farm, she spent childhood days with her siblings, running around the pastures.

After graduating high school, Kathy went onto to attend Northern Iowa Western University, earning a bachelors in English and Secondary Education. Not long after that, she made her way to Nebraska.

She married Jon (Richard) Marshall on June 11th, 1983. They eventually welcomed their first child Aden Marshall. And a few short years later, welcomed her second child; Seth Marshall. Her true pride and joys!

Not only shaping the minds of young ones with Dimensions Early Education Program, but also creating child programs from numerous summer camps like Discovery Days, to “Good News Story Tellers”, upon many others. When her children became high school age, she became involved in Lincoln High’s Drama Mommas and Poppas; dedicating much of her time inspiring the staff, lending a hand with costumes and tech, but most importantly; unconditionally supporting the kids.

Kathy left this earth on July 5th, 2024. She is survived by her husband Jon (Richard) Marshall, sons Aden Marshall; daughter in-law Rebekka Hergenrader and Seth Marshall. She is proceeded by her parents Everett and Irene VonEhwegen, and sister; Vicky Prince.

I’ll always remember how your mom was always so excited to see all of us theater kids. She always helped and encouraged us. She was so sweet and so kind and I always loved being around her. She’ll be greatly missed. We all loved your mom!

Kathy helped many of us raise our children, by giving her time and energy in our church. She stimulated their imaginations and self expression, taught them academic and social skills, cared about them, and gently led them. She also led adults to better ourselves and be a welcoming community to all. I’m very grateful to Kathy and hold her wonderful husband and sons in loving prayer.

I was blessed to know Kathy through First Plymouth Church as a Sunday school teacher and educator at Dimensions… and the many summers of Vacation Bible school programs. I moved out of State…. and returned home to Lincoln….. I had the wonderful opportunity to reconnect with Kathy and her family at her son Aden’s wedding in October…The happiness and her unforgettable laughter at this joyous event will always be with me….Sending my love and prayers to everyone.

I’m so sorry to hear of Kathy’s passing. I remember her energy, helpfulness, and kindness during the days when we were both involved in LHS theatre productions. She was tireless, and always ready to assist with a costume, a pre-show meal, or anything a student needed. She will will be missed.
