Obituary

Karen Kay (Hergenrader) Edstrom

February 24, 1957 - February 11, 2023

Karen Kay (Hergenrader) Edstrom passed away peacefully on February 11, 2023 after a long and valiant battle with pancreatic cancer at her home in Davey surrounded by her family. Karen was born to Harold and Mary (Adler) Hergenrader on February 24, 1957.

She grew up in a rural area surrounded by her friends and family. She worked at Cornhusker Bank for 47 years, doing some of most everything at the bank; from being a teller to creating the ATM department. She had a life filled with laughter and love. She married Duane Edstrom on May 3, 1980, and had three children: Melissa, Kristin and Daniel. Her children were her life as she kept busy with ball games and later babysitting her grandchildren. Victoria, Samantha, Alexander, and Lilah quickly became her new obsession and light of her life. You could always find her in the crowd watching the kids’ sports or programs. There was never a time she would say “No” to helping anyone. She had an unmatched love for Elvis, Tom Brady, and Holstein cows. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and on the board for a number of years.

She is preceded in death by her father, Harold, and her brother, Steve Hergenrader. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, mother, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, cousins, aunts and uncles, and a host of great friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church (827 County Road 18, Wahoo, NE) followed by a luncheon in Davey at the Hall. A private family inurnment will be held at Tothill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Roper and Sons Midtown Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street, Lincoln (10).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Karen’s name to the Midwest Cancer Center, 17201 Wright St, Suite 200, Omaha, NE 68130.

I Jazzercised with Karen for many years and she was always so nice to visit with. Such a beautiful family that she loved and cared for. I’m glad she received the gift of time to have with loved ones during her health battle, making the most of every minute. We’ll miss seeing your smiling face in class, Karen! Blessings to you and your family.
