Obituary

K. N. Bauman

-

K. N. Bauman was born in Bluffton, Indiana and enlisted in the Navy following his high school graduation. Stationed in Bermuda, he served as a gunnery mate and had the opportunity to cross into the Artic Circle and enter the ‘Northern Domain of the Polar Bear’ in 1951. K met his wife, Elaine, of 67 years on the dance floor in Hamilton, Bermuda. They were married at Elaine’s parents’ farm in central Iowa in December of 1952.

Following his service and a short stay in K’s hometown of Bluffton they moved to Nevada, Iowa where K began his employment with GTE (Verizon). They lived in the communities of Grinnell, Kearney, Albion and Columbus before retiring in Lincoln.

Every community benefitted from K’s commitment to service. Along the way he always had time for service clubs, church councils, and civic organizations. He lent his voice to church choirs and was known for saying yes to most any ask.

He enjoyed his poker and bridge clubs and with Elaine, as his partner, he loved to dance. After retirement he filled his time with golf, exercise and volunteer commitments. In Lincoln, he drove the train weekly at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo. He and Elaine delivered Meals on Wheels for Tabitha and Thursday afternoons were often spent filling backpacks for Saratoga Elementary School through Southwood Lutheran Church, often times accompanied by a grandchild or two.

Beside mowing and keeping his yard in tip top shape, he reveled in spending time with his daughters and their families. He was present at so many milestones and enjoyed all the sporting, music and education events he attended over the years for his grandchildren. And, without a doubt, his great grandchildren always made him smile, laugh and marvel at their escapades.

One of K’s nieces described him as “smart, witty, a dapper dresser, an incredible card player and loving uncle”. He loved the Anderson family gatherings and so enjoyed connecting whenever an opportunity was available.

His girls, Michelle, Melanie and Carla, would say he was their biggest cheerleader. In his eyes there was nothing they couldn’t accomplish. He showed them what a strong work ethic should look like and when you commit to something or someone you always follow through.

He will be remembered forever, loved deeply and missed by all.

Survived by daughters, Michelle (Thom) Asay, Melanie (John) Wright, Carla (Gary) Ohm; brother-in-law Harvey Anderson; grandchildren Kara (Randy) Gehrt, Tad (Libby) Asay, Jil (Corey) Young, Eric Wright, Molly Ohm, and Carson (Kristin) Ohm; great grandchildren Cori, Addi, Norah, Hazel, Linley, Whitt, Eamon, Taliyah, Gigi and Nolan. Preceded in death by his wife, Elaine.

A special thank you to the Assisted Living and Lighthouse teams at Immanuel Lakeside. The care, love and support they shared was beyond measure.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10th at Roper and Sons Midtown Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street.

Memorials may be made to Lincoln Children’s Zoo or Southwood Lutheran Church Backpack Program.
