June Elizabeth (Bader) Tewes

November 13, 1933 - September 6, 2013

June Elizabeth (Bader) Tewes, age 79, died peacefully on September 6, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Helen Bader and brothers Harry and David. June is survived by her husband, Wil; 4 sons, Mark (Deb) Tewes, Tim (Renee) Tewes, Douglas (Denise) Tewes, and Paul (Tammy) Tewes; 15 grandchildren: Tad (Jackie), Jessica (Nick), Isaac, Kristine (Josh), Ben, Tanner, Jacob (Heather-Aug 2014), Michael, Luke, Sam, Thomas, Kristina, Hope, Tristen, and Katryna; and 2 great-grandchildren: Ella and Jude. She is survived by seven siblings: Joann Vetter, Lois Watt, Betty Rasch, Carol Stephen, and Henry, Ted, and Bill Bader.

June was born November 13, 1933 in St. Libory, NE. June was the 5th of 10 children in the Henry Bader family. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Zion Lutheran Church, Worms, NE. She graduated from St. Paul High School and Concordia Teacher’s College in Seward, NE. June taught in Lutheran elementary schools for several years.

While at Concordia she met her future husband, Wil Tewes. They were married August 5, 1956. She loved the opportunity to raise her four sons. In 1956 the couple taught school in Spokane, WA where their first son was born. They moved to Des Plaines, IL where Wil taught school and their second and third sons were born.

Wil accepted a position as a school principal in Haven, KS where their fourth son was born. As the family grew, June enjoyed family gatherings and vacations. She gardened, canning both vegetables and fruits. June was an exceptional and innovative food preparer, making dishes that were not only tasty, but also foods that would stretch her food budget.

June was very creative and artistic, often using common elements to produce beautiful pieces. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, hand stitching, and especially quilting. She had an eye for beauty and a way of expressing that gift as a seamstress.

Her grandchildren were always welcome in her home, and her house in Bennet became a place of favorite gatherings and long-lasting memories. June treasured her friendships and volunteer opportunities at her church, Messiah Lutheran. She was also involved in Bible studies, a Book Club, and a Quilter’s Club, and she volunteered at People’s City Mission, Orphan Grain Train and Bryan Health Medical Center.

In the last months of her life, June had planned to participate on a mission trip to Haiti. The family wishes any memorials, in lieu of flowers, to be given to Mission Central (a Lutheran International Mission ministry), Ivan and Jennifer Rasch, 40718 Highway East 16, Mapleton, IA, 51034. June was married to the love of her life, Wil, for 57 years and together they celebrated both great joys and challenges. June will be greatly missed, but by God’s grace and His promise has received the prize the Lord Jesus has won for her.

Memorial Celebration Service: 3:00 p.m. Monday (9-9-13) Messiah Lutheran Church, 1800 South 84th Street. Private prior family burial. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Roper and Sons, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
