Judy Waltemath, 80, of Lincoln, Nebraska, died peacefully in her sleep on September 15, 2019 at Eastmont Towers. She was born on April 5, 1939 in North Platte, Nebraska to James and Mary (Belzer) McGovern. After completing high school in 1957 she moved to Lincoln and attended the University of Nebraska where she graduated in 1961 with a degree in Speech Therapy.
Judy married Donald Waltemath on June 16, 1962 and moved to Omaha where she was a speech therapist with the Omaha Public Schools while Don finished medical school. Their daughter Kelley was born in Omaha on November 1, 1965. After living in Omaha and 3 years in the military the family settled and has remained in Lincoln ever since.
Judy was very active with her Tri Delta Sorority. She served as chapter president while in school and after as alumni and rush adviser to the chapter. Later she worked at the national level in an advisory capacity to many chapters around the United States and loved every minute of it.
She was a loving mother and grandmother, to her two granddaughters, Brooke and Bradey Dowding. Judy was a remarkable cook and loved to bake all sorts of holiday goodies for her family. She loved to watch her grandchildren and take them to Barnes and Noble to buy books for them to read together. She was an avid sports fan and loved to attend the Nebraska football and basketball games, watch her granddaughters dance recitals, gymnastic meets and cheer.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents James and Mary McGovern. She is survived by her husband Donald Waltemath, daughter Kelley and granddaughters Brooke and Bradey Dowding.
Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Friday (9-20-19) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
