John Robert Atkinson

John Robert Atkinson

John Robert Atkinson was born October 24, 1942 in Holdrege, Nebraska and went Home to be with the Lord March 23, 2019 at the age of 76 years. He grew up on a farm near Bertrand, Nebraska and graduated from Bertrand High School where he excelled in track and football.

John is survived by two brothers, Joseph and wife Nancy Atkinson of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Daniel and wife Rebecca Atkinson of Glenwood, Iowa and a sister, Mary and husband Mark Majors of Macomb, Missouri, as well as two nieces and four nephews and two great nieces and three great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mildred Atkinson, and a sister, Beth Atkinson.

John’s favorite Bible verse was John 3:16. He was a Navy veteran and had lived and worked much of his life in Lincoln, Nebraska, a former employee of Nebraska Boiler Company. He was a great help to his mother in her elderly years.

John was a cancer survivor, but had spent recent months in hospice care in Omaha, Nebraska due to severe heart failure. We will miss our beloved brother and are comforted with the assurance that we will be with him again in our eternal Home because of Jesus, our Savior and Lord.

Service: 1:00 p.m. Friday (3-29-19) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4309 ‘O’ Street, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Burial: 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 1, Omaha National Cemetery
