John H. Tucker III, 70, of Waverly, passed away May 20, 2018. He was born March 2, 1948 in Norfolk, Virginia to Jonathan H. and Myra (Tapper) Tucker II. He was the owner and operator of the Waverly True Value Hardware store since 1975.
John served his country in combat and was a U. S. Marine Corp Veteran. He made an impact in so many lives. He was a big part of a small town, and lived and breathed to volunteer in the Waverly community. No one was a stranger. He loved to hunt and “teach” kids, not only basketball, but life’s lessons.
John was a volunteer coach for 35 years for the Salvation Army Small Fry Basketball. He was also the voice of the Vikings at Waverly High School and a member of the Lincoln Trap Club.
Family members include his wife, Janet; son, Benjamin Tucker; daughter, Jessie (Casey) Fries; 4 grandchildren, Mason and Ella Carlson, Berkley Tucker, and Aiden Fries; sister, Pamela (Mike) Jones, Colorado; brother, Robert (Karen) Tucker, New Jersey; brother-in-laws, Bob Boatman; and Jerry Sporleder (Wyoming) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Patricia Sporleder.
A Life Celebration Gathering with the family present will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Roper and Sons Waverly Chapel, 10851 N. 148th Street.
His Memorial Service will be Friday, May 25, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 8550 Pioneers Blvd. with Pastor Dan Safarik officiating.
