John C. Hurd

John C. Hurd, 70, of Lincoln passed away March 4, 2018. He was born in Lincoln September 6, 1947 to Clinton C. and Leota (Malone) Hurd.

John attended Lincoln Southeast High School, graduating in 1965. He attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969. John served in the US Army Reserves. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1973. John began his law career working as Deputy County Attorney in the Lancaster County Attorney’s office. He was one of the founding partners of the firm Wolfe, Snowden, Hurd, Luers & Ahl, LLP where he practiced law since 1977. John’s affiliations included the Nebraska State Bar Association, Lincoln Bar Association, Fellow, American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and Lincoln Estate Planning Council. He was a Board member and past President of The Cedars Home for Children Foundation, past Chairman for the City of Lincoln Personnel Board, a member of Sertoma Club, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Merit Commission, and First Plymouth Congregational Church where he was an usher for over 30 years. Most of all he dearly loved his time spent with family, his annual trip to Estes Park with his son Aaron, and family nights. But according to his grandchildren, “Papa John” was the best at preparing his two special meals: spaghetti and his famous hamburgers on the grill.

“Papa John’s” family members include his life partner, Vicki Hurd; daughters, Amy (Mark) Palmer, Abigail (Chris) Hallgren; son, Aaron Hurd; grandchildren, Alana, Tommy, Derek, and Dylan Palmer; Alex and Mya Hallgren; sister, Janice Hurd (Marv Goldfogel); cousin, Charles (Donette) Shenk; and many other friends and loved ones. His kind and gentle presence will be missed by all.

A Celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday (3-12-18) at First Plymouth Congregational Church, 2000 D. St. A Life’s Celebration gathering with family greeting friends will be held from 3:00-4:30 p.m., on Sunday (3-11-18) at Roper & Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Dr., Lincoln, NE. Memorial contributions may be directed towards Cedars Home for Children, 6601 Pioneers Blvd., Lincoln, NE 68506.
