She grew up in Ainsworth and in North Platte, NE, graduating from North Platte High School in 1967. She later attended business college for two years, earning her business degree. Janet enjoyed crafting, gardening, traveling, and most importantly, spending time with family and friends. She loved traveling to the east coast, west coast, and everywhere in between to see family and friends.
Family members include her husband of 21 years, Larry, of Lincoln; children, Julie (Paul) Pack of Lexington, NE and Joel (Alisha) Engle of Kansas City, MO; step-children, Robert (Ron Rulison) McNeel of Long Beach, CA and Lori (Alan) Thompson of Lincoln; grandchildren, Kaelyn (Edwin) Hooper; Connor Pack; and Ashlyn, Katelyn and Jack Thompson; great-grandson, Elias Hooper; sister, Katherine (Vernon) Counts; step-sisters, Barb (Doug) Kloepping, Peggy (Jerry) Funk, Brandi (Scott) Pirnie; step-mother, Phyllis Skillman, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Janet was preceded in death by her father, Donald Skillman; mother, Glenda Spies; step-father, Carl Spies; first husband, Gene Engle; and step-sister, Tess Furden.
A celebration of Janet’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Dr., Lincoln 68516. No visitation/burial.
Memorials may be given to the family for a future designation.
