James R. “Jim” Owens

James R.

James R. “Jim” Owens of Lincoln died on February 12, 2019. Born April 23, 1932 to Albert R. and Louise “Jane” (Goodbrod) Owens in Loup City Nebraska.

Following graduation from Grinnell College, he served two years in the United States Army. On May 12, 1956. Jim was united in marriage with Mary Lea Domingo. In 1957 Jim returned to Loup City to work in the Keystone Lumber Company. During that time he served on the City Council.

In 1963, Jim and his family moved to Weeping Water to work in the Nebraska State Bank from which he retired as President in l990. Jim was an active member of First Congregational Church, Euclid Lodge #97 A.F & AM, an EMT on the Weeping Water Rescue Squad, and a participant in the Lofte Community Theatre.

Upon his move to Lincoln, Jim served many years on the Eastmont Towers Board of Directors and was a member of Vine Congregational Church, U.C.C. He enjoyed all forms of UNL sports, music, literature, history, hunting, and dogs.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mary, of Lincoln, daughter Cindy (George) Naughton of Pelham, Massachusetts, son,Tim (Denene) Owens, Columbus, Nebraska, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Maiefski.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

Memorials to Vine Congregational Church, U.C.C., or Eastmont Towers Foundation.

Cremation/No visitation.
