James “Jim” R. Thieszen

January 27, 1946 - July 6, 2021

James “Jim” R. Thieszen

James “Jim” R. Thieszen, 75, of Lincoln passed away July 6, 2021, at his home. He was born January 27, 1946, in York, NE to Aaron and Helen (Epp) Thieszen.

Jim retired as an outdoor plant manager for LT&T, Aliant, Alltel, and Windstream, retiring after 42 years. He called Lincoln his home for 55 years. He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and Frank H. Woods Telephone Pioneers Association.

Jim enjoyed woodworking, golfing, traveling, playing cards, and watching sports (especially Husker sports, NBA basketball, and local high school football and basketball). He took great pride in taking care of his lawn and liked gardening. He attended countless events including birthday parties, music concerts, band competitions, dance recitals, sporting events, and plays to support his children and grandchildren.
With his easy-going personality and love for conversation, Jim has had many friendships with family members, coworkers, neighbors, and friends. Some of these relationships have lasted over 40 years. He was fun loving and had a wonderful sense of humor. He could be ornery though and had a mischievous little grin! Even when his battle with cancer got tough, he kept the humor going for family and friends. He was a special soul and will be greatly missed.

Family members include his wife, Carol who he married June 29, 2008; daughters Debra (Todd) Cook, Norfolk, and Cynthia Thieszen, Omaha; step-children Bryan Mason, Bradshaw, and Lindsey (Matt) Ansbach, Hastings; grandchildren Alex and Andy Cook, Cara and Kylie Ansbach, and Maddox Radford; brothers Lelan (Marlene) Thieszen, Henderson, Dean (Barb) Thieszen, Aurora, Glenden (Rita) Thieszen, Summerset, SD, sisters Nina Smith, Grand Island, and Lela (Cal) Regier, Henderson; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Marcella Martens (Wilbur), brother Erland Thieszen (Glenda and RuthAnn).

Celebration of Life Service: 2:00 p.m. Tuesday (7-13-21) Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive.
