Jacqueline (Jackie) Ann Burbank, 86, of Clive, IA passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 18, 2017. She was born on March 4, 1931 to Louis and Margaret ‘Alice’ (Anderson) Ficke in Seward, NE. She grew up in the towns of Pleasant Dale, Palmyra, and Lincoln, NE. She married Wayne E. Burbank on November 18, 1950 (Sadie Hawkins Day).
Jackie, a lifelong homemaker and mother dedicated to her family, was always involved in her churches and communities. She was a member of United Methodist Churches in Lincoln, Loomis, and Central City, NE, Carrington, ND, and Urbandale, IA, and she spent many years teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, and a Sunday School Teacher Trainer. She led 4-H clubs, Girl Scout troops, and Cub Scout dens. She was a long-term school board member, serving several terms as president, in both Central City and Carrington. While living in North Dakota she developed a love of quilting and spent many hours at a quilt frame with her friends and was a member of the Quilt Guild in Carrington. Jackie’s quilts frequently were sold in the hospital gift shop or were auctioned to support the Hospital Auxiliary.
Jackie is survived by Wayne, her husband of 66 years, son, Dale (Jane) Burbank, daughters, Annette (Michael) Wagner, Susan (Doyle) Burbank-Williams, and Cathleen (Chase) Boardman, grandchildren, Ellen Burbank, Anna Burbank, Rachel (Shane) Wilson, Aaron Wagner, Timothy Wagner, Brian (Gretchen) Williams, Margaret Williams, Noeline Boardman, and Jacqueline Boardman, great-grandchildren, Jamison Wagner, Hailey Locke, Ainsley Wilson, Kinley Wilson, and Landon Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Noeline Ficke and Margaret “Peggy” Stedman, her brother William “Bill” Ficke, her son, Dwight Burbank, and her granddaughter, Rebekah Burbank.
Visitation will be Monday, October 23, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roper and Sons Funeral Home, 4300 O Street, Lincoln. A burial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Fairview Cemetery, Lincoln.
Following the burial, a service celebrating Jackie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 1610 South 11th Street, Lincoln.
A memorial service in Iowa will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Walnut Hills United Methodist Church, 12321 Hickman Road, Urbandale, IA.
